Tomorrow @ 7PM: Beyond Self-Criticism and Completely Trusting Oneself (EWTI #1)
What would it be like to completely trust ourselves as a piece of life?
We’ll kick off the Experiments with Truth and Illusion series tomorrow at 7 - 8 PM PST on Zoom.
Title: Beyond Self-Criticism - Completely Trusting Oneself
In EWTI #1, I’ll introduce the series and then I’ll talk about our topic. How do we completely trust ourselves? And how do we handle our tendency to constantly judge and criticise ourselves?
INTRO:
We look out into the world and we see conflict.
We look inward and we also see conflict.
We see that there is conflict within and without.
One example that seems to be ubiquitous is how we are constantly criticizing ourselves. Many of us are constantly judging and evaluating ourselves at every step.
It might be said that we do not fundamentally trust ourselves, our basic being here.
It seems we would rather place a cheaper type of trust in our looks, our smarts, our bodies, our work, our family, our tribe, our religion, our new diet, our NetFlix, our fashion, our partner, our degrees, our facts about the world. But this trust is completely conditional. Completely unreliable. So this trust is certain to keep breaking down on us. Look into it for yourself. See if you haven’t or at some point been placing all of your trust everywhere but within your basic being here.
So what is this fundamental trust in our just being here and how do we cultivate it?
We’ll dance with this question like a poet rather than provide “the” answer. I’ll share a story about my life at a time where this fundamental trust seemed completely inaccessible to me and my situation (as I perceived it) and how that shifted towards complete trust. We’ll then have a Q and A session.
See you September 8th, 7PM (tomorrow evening).
